Wanna use technology as a therapeutic tool to help kids and teens cope with their illness? I am thrilled to introduce Lu Borges, a child life technology coordinator that will be offering a FREE workshop to 6 lucky winners. This is a great opportunity to gain PDHs and relay the information to the rest of your child life department.
To celebrate Child Life Month, I’m hosting a free 4-6 person workshop in Brooklyn on creating digital patient narratives (stories, journaling, teaching) with your iPad using stop motion, video and image editing apps. We’ll look at setting up a portable “Animation Station” you can use in any area or patient room, as well as have fun with some other tech tools!
The workshop will be held on either 4/11 or 4/18.
We are hoping to have a diverse group of specialists coming from hospitals in the NYC, NJ, and surrounding areas. Please spread the word to your colleagues.
Here’s how to enter:
1. Comment on post below about your favorite App and list your Child Life or CAT level (student, CCLS1)

We have our WINNERS!
I’m a student completing my internship right now, and I know it’s not an app necessarily but I love using the KidsHealth website. It provides such great information for both adults and children.
That is a great resource!
I am a CLAA from Boise, Idaho I was so happy to stumble across this post. http://www.scoop.it/t/aac-apps features many great resources. Niki Talk is another App that I have used on my Ipad with some success. I look forward for following this thread and seeing what others post.

Thank you Nicole for the link. Have you checked out https://www.facebook.com/cl.cat.tablets and http://www.childlifetechnology.org? They are both filled with great resources too. I am assuming that you won’t be able to attend the workshop in April due to location, so check out these helpful sites instead. Best of luck.
Something for work and home sounds great.
Yes, indeed

Yes I am. Our facility is located in Queens. St. Mary’s Hospital For Children is one of New York’s oldest free standing children’s hospitals.
Oh yes, I am familiar with St. Mary’s. Great facility!
This workshop is a great idea. Hope to get a spot!

Hi! My name is Janeen and I am an art therapist at Cohens Children’s Medical Center. I’m also a filmmaker and video artist. I try to use digital media and video with my patients whenever possible, with those that have an interest. One if my favorite programs and applications to use is istopmotion. It allows for patients to either construct a character from paper or clay, or sometimes use toys-and generate a story by moving the characters around. I find that teens really enjoy this intervention and it’s something that they can continue to use at home on their own when they are discharged if they have a tablet or computer. I an so excited at the opportunity to learn about other creative ways that I can help hospitalized children express their experiences through the use of technology. I would also like to add that I am also in charge of creating programming for our closed circuit TV Channel in the hospital.
Thanks for reading. 😄
