The Butterfly Pig makes medical toys designed to aid play therapy at home or the hospital. Medical treatments can be intimidating for children and can also be stressful for their siblings. Play therapy can help prepare children before treatments, distract and encourage play during treatment, and help them cope/ gain understanding after.
The owner, Mary, began making medical devices for stuffed animals as a pediatric oncology nurse. That experience introduced her to making more inclusive toys, especially for children with medical needs. It wasn’t until she was on maternity leave several years later that she dove into creating more complex designs.
The Butterfly Pig is named after an original children’s book about a pig born with butterfly wings that explores the concepts of self-love and inclusion.
All their inclusive medical toys are designed by request and entirely manufactured by The Butterfly Pig in Elk Grove, USA.
