I’m always looking to add new resources to my toolbox and share them with others. So it was a delight to discover The Highway Inside of Me
, a newly published workbook that supports resiliency in children, adolescents and adults.
‘The Highway Inside of Me‘ is a trauma sensitive and resiliency focused workbook for children, youth, and caregivers. This workbook is filled with child-friendly explanations about how and why our bodies communicate with us through the specific language of physical feelings. Through prompted questions and opportunities to practice, the reader learns about ways to understand this language, and techniques to balance back out again after a stressful of traumatic event. This workbook is also formatted to be a useful tool for parents, counselors, educators, and anyone helping to support a young person through life’s twists, turns, and bumpy roads.
This resource is designed to be a teaching tool for children, and also any adult (child life specialist, teacher, parent) working with children experiencing any degree of stress and trauma, whether it is healthcare related, school based or otherwise.
Why I created it:
After becoming a Reconnect trainer for Resources For Resilience
, I found that there were virtually no materials out there that help teach these resiliency tools (and the biology behind why they work) to children. I decided a couple of years ago that I would work towards creating a tool that I could use in my child life practice. Click Here
