What a spectacular event that I was able to be part of. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Central Park was exciting and so moving. To see thousands, and I mean sixty thousand plus people gather together to walk in honor of loved ones who are currently battling the disease, are survivors or who have lost the battle, was incredibly touching.
I was honored to be a team leader for my dear friend Deb Vilas. She has been undergoing treatment for the past few months and is determined to walk next year with a pink banner that reads “Survivor.”
This was the first time I have participated in an event like this and I absolutely loved it. I created Team Deb and began to gather troops of supporters willing to walk, donate and purchase a Team Deb Making Strides t-shirt.
With a team goal of raising $2,500, we went beyond that and nearly doubled it. We were a small piece of the fundraising efforts to American Cancer Society who raised three million dollars. It is incredibly rewarding knowing that we are paying it forward to thousands who are effected. I know that Deb felt the spirit of support from her friends, family and sixty thousand strangers.
Thank you to all the Team Deb members and the supporters in the fight against breast cancer.
We rocked it!
