Parents know that raising kids is full of expenses, both anticipated and unexpected. One big area of expense for many families is clothes. Kids grow fast and play hard. This makes it seem nearly impossible to keep them in stylish, well-fitting, and fresh-looking clothes while staying within a reasonable budget. While it may be a challenge, there are some ways to help parents save big on clothes for kids.
Take Advantage of Loyalty Programs
Many clothing retailers have incentive programs for their loyal customers that are absolutely free to join. Many of them offer “free” money to spend in store for every $50 or $100 you spend. Don’t let those incentives go to waste. Make sure to use them. The key to maximizing savings is to use these extra dollars wisely. Don’t go in and spend more than you need, or your “savings” actually end up costing you more money.
Shop Second Hand
With how fast kids grow, there are times they may only wear a certain outfit a handful of times before they outgrow it. Consider buying kids’ clothes second hand. There are a wide array of online options as well as local and regional shops. If you have nice clothes to get rid of consider reselling them. This will give you a little extra money to use towards the new wardrobe. Additionally, do not shy away from hand me downs. Talk to family and friends that have kids a little bigger than yours. Let them know that you’d be interested in buying (or being gifted) any clothes their kids outgrow.
Avoid Designer Brands
Designer clothing comes with a hefty price tag. Look for off brand ideas to help kids stay stylish on a budget. Foregoing name brands is a sure way to save some money when shopping. Understand which stores carry which brands, so you don’t fall into impulse buying when you are in the store.
Use Coupons
Be on the lookout for coupons for your favorite brands and stores. Sign up for mailing lists and follow them on social media to stay up-to-date on coupons and promotions being offered. Before shopping, check for coupons, because you never know when you might be able to get discounts on the latest fashion products from Macy’s and other well-known retailers. Chances are you will be able to find one to use.
Shop Sales
Amazing savings can be found if you shop sales for kid’s clothes. Some of the best deals can be found at end of the season sales. With some planning ahead, you can find great winter gear in February or March for the upcoming year.
You can anticipate that kids will keep growing and you will have to buy new clothes. With a bit of planning and creativity in shopping, buying them new wardrobes does not have to break the bank!
