Certified Child Life Specialists are trained to work with children and families facing challenging situations, such as a medical diagnosis, trauma and loss. They work in a healthcare setting and community based programs. Through a background in child development and using a family-centered care approach, specialists use supportive methods to meet each child and family where they are at.
Specialists educate and prepare children for medical procedures, transitions and new experiences through a variety of modalities, such as play, teaching dolls, visuals, technology, rehearsal and developmentally appropriate language. They empower children to overcome challenges by strengthening their resiliency and advocating skills.
