Ice Skating, Raffle Prizes, Disney Princesses, all to support The Center For Hope

The Center for HOPE fundraising event was a success. Family and friends flooded the ice rink and were assisted by a USA olympian and the Islander’s mascot, Sparky the dragon. Kids ate cotton candy, pizza and had their faces painted by clowns, while the parents bought raffle tickets for gift baskets.

It was a family day that focused on bringing awareness and raising funds for the bereavement program at North Shore LIJ Cohen Children’s Medical Center.

As a facilitator for The Center for HOPE, I have witnessed first hand the transformation in children and families. When they enter the program there is a sense of heaviness with their emotions. The mixture of feeling angry, sad, guilt, frustration and loneliness is soon changed to love, validation and hope. The families learn strategies for healthy ways to cope with the loss of their loved one and how to continue to hold their legacy strong.
