Using Music, Nature and Friendship to Help Families Cope with Cancer

When a child becomes sick, the whole family becomes sick. Navigating this complex and emotional healthcare journey is exhausting. By having services available to support families is crucial. One amazing organization that has been doing this since 1995, is the Children’s Cancer Association.

The Children’s Cancer Association (CCA) knows that for seriously ill children and their families every moment is precious. That’s why its programs leverage music, friendship, and nature to create transformative moments of joy for more than 35,000 children, teens, and their family members each year. CCA believes all kids deserve long, wonderful lives. Or at the very least, short wonderful lives. Unlike many organizations dedicated to the worthy goal of someday finding a cure for cancer, CCA is all about creating joy today.

CCA offers free-of-charge programs to help families cope. Their program that reaches kids on a national level is MyMusicRx®.

CCA’s flagship program that delivers the healing power of music to kids facing cancer and other serious illnesses. Two decades ago CCA began delivering music medicine to children and teens facing cancer and other serious illnesses. Today, MyMusicRx’s 360° patient experience includes bedside service, in-hospital concerts, and digital programs all designed to relieve stress, anxiety, and perception of pain.

CCA’s trained music specialists go room to room using our state-of-the-art music cart stocked with teaching quality teaching instruments, to play music for and with kids and their families.

MyMusicRx is on the ground in Portland at Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, and Ronald McDonald House. Nationally CCA is honored to partner with Boston Children’s Hospital, the #1 ranked children’s hospital in the US, with Kadlec Regional Medical Center in the Tri-Cities, and with St. David’s Children’s Hospital in Austin, TX.

MyMusicRx.org, empowers 8,100 kids at 30 pediatric hospitals across the country to shift, plan and grow – through music. And since 1995, MyMusicRx has had the honor of serving more than 221,000 children along with their families, caregivers, and medical professionals.
